Prescription
To provide students with the knowledge and skills to manage and dispense animal health products and remedies in accordance with relevant legislation and animal welfare standards. Includes 40 hours of work placement in a rural or mixed veterinary clinic setting.

Required Text:
An extended reading list will be supplied by the tutor at commencement of the module. This will be updated annually.

Content
-Pharmacology; animal health products use and application; dispensing of animal health products
-Management of animal health products; marketing, displaying and selling
-Professional practice attributes: Compliance with workplace health and safety requirements; knowledge of animal welfare standards and relevant legislation; sustainable practices; effective communication skills; cultural recognition and sensitivity; professional and ethical behaviour; teamwork; accurate record-keeping.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning will be facilitated using a range of teaching and learning methods, which may include:
-Practical - laboratory; practical or workshop sessions and activities; demonstrations; field trips/industry visits; work placement
-Theory - includes web-supported tutor facilitated/directed presentations; lectures and tutorials; group activities; peer presentations and review; group/individual research; online learning activities; case studies; guest speakers

Assessment in this module is mixed mode. The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks. To pass this module all tasks must be submitted and an overall minimum pass mark of 50 is required. Students must also meet all the requirements of the competency based tasks and professional practice assessment to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the marks from the achievement based tasks.

1:Apply pharmacological knowledge of common rural animal health products to select and dispense the appropriate animal remedy
2:Apply best practice for the management, display, sale and marketing of rural animal health products
3:Use professional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills and behaviours to foster effective relationships in a rural animal care environment
4.Maintain appropriate standards of professional behaviour and practice in the workplace
