The purpose of this module is to introduce the student to real landscape design situations emulating the operations of a practicing landscape designer.

Learning Outcomes
1. Acquire communication skills in landscape design writing, and landscape design interview, explanation and selling
2. Demonstrate the landscape design process for a simple landscape site (a flat residential property or site of similar nature)
i.Range:
1.Interview the client(s) to determine their needs and wants.
2.Measure up and survey an existing site and accurately draw up a property plan showing site analysis.
3.Generate and discuss concept ideas appropriate to the site.
4.Develop landscape master plan
5.Present back to the class/client a comprehensive design package to include master plan, and written design report
3. Act as team member to demonstrate the design process for a site with some slight complexities (including but not limited to structures, slope, or rural situation).

Viewing and discussion of previous landscape design projects.
Garden Place - landscape design study.
Mock landscape design site.
Residential/Small Scale landscape design
Meeting the client.
Site assets/constraints, client needs.
Design concepts appropriate to the site.
Generation of concept ideas/plans.
Rendering of master plans.
Use of computer to generate titles and notations for plans.
Writing landscape reports to accompany plans
Sloping sites.
Rural/lifestyle oriented sites.
Teaching and Learning Strategi
Teaching and learning methods will include theory classes, tutorial sessions, practical sessions, group projects, written assignments, oral & practical and written tests.
Assessment Criteria
Students should attain a mark of 50 or above in their overall grade to obtain a pass.
