MONIKA SALZBORN
Exchange Student – Germany
Business studies
I arrived in July 2025 as part of my Business studies at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein in Austria, and I’ll be here until June 2026. This exchange has already become one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. I’m a very family-oriented person, deeply connected to my Bavarian roots, and there are moments when I really miss home. But whenever that happens, I open a book filled with letters from my family and closest friends — and it never fails to make me smile.
Living and studying in New Zealand has taught me so much — not only academically, but personally. You grow stronger, more independent, and more open-minded with every new day. The landscapes here are absolutely breath-taking — from the beaches to the mountains — and the people are some of the warmest and most welcoming I’ve ever met.
I’ve already visited Fiji and plan to travel through both the North and South Islands soon, as well as to Australia. Even though I never considered myself adventurous, I’ve made more memories and gained more confidence in these few months than ever before.
If you ever have the chance to go abroad — take it. It’s not just about studying somewhere new; it’s about discovering who you are. Looking back, I think little Moni would be so proud of how far I’ve come — of the courage, the growth, and the joy this journey has brought me. And honestly, I’m proud too."
