Kia ora everyone, and welcome to Wintec!
I am an Academic Learning Advisor in Student Learning Services (SLS). SLS is part of the Student Experience team. We exist to make your experience at Wintec as good as it can be! My role involves supporting students who have science modules in their programmes; I work with students studying science, foundation health, nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy. You’ll also find me visiting horticulture students at the Hamilton Gardens and in the regions. I love meeting and working with Wintec students and enjoy the variety in my work day. When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my family, travelling and enjoying our beautiful country.
In SLS, we can help with the academic side of your life at Wintec. You may see Learning Advisors in your classes, in sessions out of class or in the SLS office in the hub. There are lots of forms of support available to you. You may need help with study skills like time management or note taking, how to write at an academic level or how to incorporate information you have researched into your assignment. Feel free to ask us anything academic. If we aren’t the right people to answer your question, we’ll let you know who is.
My background is in teaching chemistry (also at Wintec), however more recently I have been a student myself, studying how to teach English as an Additional Language (EAL) and social sciences including psychology. I am passionate about enabling students to succeed regardless of their previous educational background. I also believe strongly in student-to-student support via study groups and peer tutor groups. Please be sure to get in touch if you think I can help you.
