Kia ora everyone, and welcome to Wintec!
I am an Academic and Science Learning Advisor at Student Learning Services (SLS). SLS is part of the wider Student Experience team. Our role is to make your experience at Wintec as good as it can be.
My own study background is in science and psychology, and I am currently studying Te Reo Māori. For most of my working life, I have been a tutor within science and health science programmes at Wintec. I moved to SLS because I am passionate about enabling students to succeed regardless of their previous educational background. I also believe strongly in students supporting other students and am involved in organising peer tutor-led study groups. The sorts of things students come and see me for include how to study science subjects and prepare for tests and exams, managing their time and making study plans, understanding assignment instructions and checking they are on track with their assessments.
If you are studying in a health science programme, such as Te Ara Pūtake, Enrolled Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery, you will likely hear from me. I also work with students studying in the School of Science and Primary Industries within our Applied Science, Horticulture and Dairy Diploma programmes. I can be found at the City or Hamilton Gardens campuses or sometimes at one of our out-of-town teaching venues.
My job is varied, and I love it! You are very welcome to email me, and we can arrange to catch up in person or via Zoom — best wishes for your time here at Wintec.
