Prescription
In this module students will further develop Maori language skills in the areas of korero and whakarongo, tuhi and panui to a beginner level where these skills can be utilised on Marae and in daily conversations. Participation in this module will further develop the use of te reo and tikanga Maori. Students will participate in Marae protocol and use the skills acquired in their work place.

Learning Outcomes
1. Analyse the importance of traditional and contemporary Maaori cultural and ethnic identity.
2. Analyse the poowhiri and poroporoaki proceedings and their protocols.
3. Articulate the importance of Marae.
4. Analyse and apply the concept of idioms of time - past, present and future.
5. Demonstrate a beginner level of proficiency in oral and written te reo Maaori.

Teaching and Learning Strategy

Basic of Assessment
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
