Learning Outcomes
1. Identify and apply concepts of population health, health promotion and primary healthcare nursing.
2. Examine discourses of health and socio-ecological determinants in Aotearoa New Zealand and international contexts and identify implications for primary healthcare practice.
3. Examine community health promotion in practice.
4. Identify key elements of effective collaboration, teamwork, community engagement and self-determination in health promotion.

Health systems and sustainable public health policy

Application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi in health promoting practice
Sustainability – WHO goals, environmental, ecological, kaitiakitanga. Equitable environmental, economic, commercial and social conditions for communities
Social determinant approaches to improving hauora
Evidence-based practice and research approaches in population health, health promotion and primary healthcare

Introduction to the nurse’s role in promoting hauora
Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components. Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, complete 40 hours clinical practicum and gain 50% with a minimum mark of 40% in each part of the portfolio to pass this module.
