Analyse and discuss the aetiology and management of common chronic health disorders and the implications for exercise prescription.
Design, implement and evaluate an exercise programme for an individual from an identified special population or special needs group.
Identify referral pathways for special populations.
Content
-Exercise and disease
-Special population groups - children, adolescent, pre- and post-natal women, older adults
-Special needs - disease states (obesity, asthma, arthritis, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain and back problems, disabilities
-Musculoskeletal injuries
-Risk factor analysis
-Medications and their effect on exercise
-Programme design
-Interdisciplinary approach
-Ethics and professional code of practice
Teaching and Learning Strategy
The teaching and learning material may incorporate workshop activities, laboratory tasks, lectures, online research, training videos, tutor directed learning, and student managed learning, individual and group work. The assignments will encourage reflection on important concepts taught throughout the course.
Assessment Criteria
To pass this module student must complete all assessments and accumulate an overall module mark of no less than 50.
