Prescription
This module aims to develop listening skills to meet employment needs of students at a CEFR mid B2 level. They will develop skills to understand standard spoken language on most concrete, abstract, familiar and unfamiliar topics normally encountered in an employment context.

- Identify gist, detail, purposes and key ideas and distinguish between fact and opinion in extended discussions and meetings.
Extract and reproduce key information from announcements, media broadcasts, and presentations including abstract and concrete topics encountered in employment contexts.
Demonstrate understanding of long, detailed instructions (over 12 steps) and directions for technical and non-technical employment-related tasks. - Content
- Phonological features

-feelings, moods, attitudes, important points and opinions expressed through stress, pitch and intonation.
Range
-ideas, arguments and descriptions expressed through complex sentence forms
-lower frequency vocabulary and expressions relating to everyday life and current events.

-degrees of formality used by speakers in different types of utterances in everyday and less familiar situations.
Gist
-main ideas in longer but clearly structured announcements, conversations and discussions on familiar and unfamiliar concrete and abstract topics.
Detail
-more salient points of detail from longer but clearly structured texts on familiar and unfamiliar topics and on both concrete and abstract topics.

- The portfolio is comprised of multiple assessment tasks, not tests alone. To pass this module, students must attempt all assessment tasks.
- Learning and Teaching Resource
- Extensive reading is an important part of the programme and learners will be guided to extensive reading resources as available in the Wintec library.
There will be a recommended text for this programme which will be updated annually as required.
