1. Interpret tree mechanical and physiological processes, in relation to tree growth and manipulation
2. Analyse environmental factors, and how these influence trees growth and production cycle.
Content
? The design and architectural features of trees and how their anatomy sustains growth.
? The development strategies of trees and how they co-ordinate their life cycles to meet the changes in environment and energy allocations.
? Tree biomechanics, shape optimization and the ‘body language’ of trees.
? Review of basic physiological processes.
? Allelopathy.
? Senescence.
? Branch abscission
? Use of plant growth regulators.
? Coordination of growth in trees
? Practical applications of controlling tree growth.
Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components. Students need to pass all components of the portfolio with at least 50% in order to pass this module.
