Learning Outcomes: By the end of this course the student will be able to:
1. Identify, research and plan potential news media stories
2. Demonstrate bicultural and intercultural awareness in interviewing processes
3. Apply skills to write accurate news stories from research and interviews for relevant platforms
4. Apply skills to produce and publish photographs and video for relevant platforms
5. Publish stories using relevant digital platforms
6. Reflect on story production processes, including cultural and ethical values.
Content: • Marae experience and introduction to te Ao Maori
• Cultural perspectives and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• .Where do stories come from – identifying news values and gathering information
• Research using library and internet
• Interviewing skills
• Notetaking and audio recording for interviewing
• Story structures and written communication skills
• Proofreading and editing your own, and others writing
• Digital photography and post-production
• Planning a video story
• Creating and editing video
• Publishing written and visual stories on digital platforms
• Promote stories using text and images in a format suitable for social media platforms
Assessment Criteria: Criteria to Pass this Module:
Students must gain an overall mark of 50% to be successful in this course
