To provide the student with knowledge of functional specifications as related to process control and automation systems such that they can analyse a functional specification for a system and be able to determine correct operation according to the specification or to develop a solution to meet the specification.

Learning will be by way of structured distance learning, either by hardcopy written material and assessment/s or by on-line learning and assessment. Students will be provided with essential learning material and will be encouraged to research some aspects by way of library/database and/or internet searches for pertinent material.
