- Students will be able to:
1. Examine the role of the early childhood teacher, the relationship with curricula and the influence this has on children’s holistic learning and development.
2. Investigate the implications of current early childhood education regulatory and legislative documents and their professional responsibilities in relation to these.
3. Apply and appraise concepts of professional practice including collaborative relationships, professional behaviour, boundaries and obligations.
- • Curricula appropriate to the teaching context of Aotearoa New Zealand and the impact on outcomes for learners.
• Unpacking the standards for the teaching profession and understanding the code of professional responsibility.
• Concepts of professional practice in education including collaborative relationships, professional behaviour, leadership, boundaries and obligations.
• Principles of social justice including Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Reflection and reflexive practice.

- Assessment Criteria
- The portfolio is comprised of multiple components. Students need to provide sufficient evidence against all learning outcomes and gain an overall mark of at least 50% in order to pass this module.

- Recommended Readings
- Relevant required and recommended readings and resources will be updated annually prior to delivery of the module to ensure currency of the literature and resources. The annual required and recommended reading list will be provided to the students in Bachelor of Teaching (Early Years) annual Booklist and Student Module Booklet.
