Learning Outcomes
Describe the properties of water, material properties and considerations, including less frequently used materials in plumbing and drainlaying. Identify objectives, fixtures, appliances and components used within foul water sanitary plumbing systems. Demonstrate ability to prepare and install basic sanitary plumbing systems. Demonstrate ability to mark, cut, join, and test pipework for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying.
Content
Describe the properties of water including: i. density, ii. energy transfer, iii. qualities of potable, grey, recycled, and foul water. Describe less frequently used materials in plumbing and drainlaying and: i. when less frequently used materials should and should not be used in plumbing or drainlaying projects, ii. the compatibility and protection considerations of materials. Describe the application of less frequently used materials used in plumbing and drainlaying i. Describe the situations in which the materials are appropriate for use in a plumbing and/or drainlaying project. ii. Describe the situations in which the materials should not be used in a plumbing and/or drainlaying project. Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006, New Zealand Building Code Clause G13 Foul water. Sanitary fixtures and appliance types, functions of components, positions of fixtures, appliances and components. Sanitary plumbing system - layout drawings, component functions, schedule of quantities. Foul water system - pipework dimension information, marking and cutting pipes, pipe joints, soundness tests. Water supply pipework systems - layout drawings, component functions, schedule of quantities. Water supply pipework system - pipework dimension information, marking and cutting pipes, pipe joints, soundness tests. Installing sanitary fixtures – determining & recording position, securing and connecting fixtures, installation & commissioning tests. Water supply pipework - pipework dimension information, marking and cutting pipes, pipe joints, soundness tests. Gas supply pipework - pipework dimension information, marking and cutting pipes, pipe joints, gastight tests. Drainlaying pipework – excavation, sub-base, base material, marking and cutting pipes, positioning, installing, connecting pipework, soundness tests.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is competency-based. In order to pass this module students must attempt and meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessments including carrying out all tasks in a safe manner and to industry standard
