"Hi, my name is Devina. I was born in India and raised in Singapore.

I moved to New Zealand in July 2024 to pursue my Master's in Applied Information Technology here at Wintec. Moving brought the usual concerns about adjusting to a new country, but those dissipated quickly. The welcoming, kind, and respectful nature of the people made me feel at ease instantly. 

Shortly after arriving, I began working with Hamilton City Council at their various attraction sites, which gave me a chance to interact with local Kiwis and learn about the rich Māori culture. What really impressed me was how naturally different cultures are embraced here, and how kindness and community are part of daily life. The Māori values of whānau (family), manaakitanga (hospitality), and kaitiakitanga (guardianship) have deepened my respect for the community and set a strong sense of responsibility towards the land.

I enjoy the challenge of bringing people, processes, and technology together, and this led me to pursue a Master's. I chose Wintec because of its strong industry connections and placement opportunities, which have provided me with valuable local experience and a strong professional network with leading companies, giving me a competitive edge before I graduate. The Wintec curriculum is a perfect blend of academics and hands-on industry experience, which has provided me with a solid foundation as I prepare to step into the real world.

I've always been drawn to understanding how IT systems work and how people interact with them. My goal is to lead technology projects that don't just function but make a difference. I want to be in roles where I can solve real problems and contribute to something meaningful.

Looking ahead, I'm eager to build my career in New Zealand, contributing to innovative ICT projects while growing personally and professionally in this welcoming community."
