  • Performing arts ākonga tell the story of Kirikiriroa to local primary schools

    Wintec | Te Pūkenga School of Media Arts Performing Arts students presented Te Awa – The Untold Pakiwaitara o Kirikiriroa at Wintec's Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa marae recently. This ākonga performance is an outcome of the School of Media Arts rangahau kaupapa to share some of the pūrākau connected to Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa, established in partnership with Tōia Mai.

  • Wintec students design cookbooks with Aotearoa flavour

    The brief to design a cookbook publication has been a fixture in the curriculum for many first year Bachelor of Design students at Wintec School of Media Arts, Te Pūkenga. But this year, with the intention of making the process more “real life”, tutors saw the opportunity to capture the experience of the school’s Matariki celebration where a hāngī is prepared and shared with staff and students at the campus marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa.

    Wintec Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts student Lucy Johnson (Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Raukawa), who goes by the stage name, whero, has released her first single Easy and has plans to release an E.P in 2023.

    Wintec | Te Pūkenga Centre for Information Technology has announced participation in the Microsoft Learn for Educators program. With access to the tools and materials included in the program, Wintec can offer industry-led courses for ākonga to obtain industry-recognized Microsoft certifications.

  • Wintec students land fairy tale roles in international Shrek: The Musical production

    Talented Wintec | Te Pukenga performing arts students Memphis Ward, Helen Drysdale-Dunn, and Iosia Tofilau land fairy tale roles in professional production of Shrek: The Musical, touring the Middle East next year. Helen and Memphis have been cast as ensemble members and Iosia has leapt into a leading role, playing Donkey, famously voiced by Eddie Murphy in the original movie.

This support comes in many forms, and Wintec kaimahi understand that there is more to a successful ākonga experience than academic achievement alone. The Wintec | Te Pūkenga approach aligns with the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.

    The Certificate in Health and Wellbeing provides students with the foundation knowledge, skills, and practical experiences to work alongside individuals, families and whānau accessing social and community services. Students gain a wide range of transferable skills essential to the role of a support worker.
