Environmental Chamber (Acclimation)

Price: $50 per hourexcl. GST

What is it?

Here at the WHPH we have a state of the art acclimation chamber. This chamber allows us to simulate different environments to prepare athletes competing in certain climates. Our chamber can be set from 4 degrees to 39 degrees and between 40%-100% humidity. The chamber can accommodate up to 4 athletes at once (depending on exercise intensity and ergometers being used)

Why is it useful?

Exposing yourself to heat stress, in a controlled environment, over the course of 7 to 14 days, allows your body to adapt to these environmental changes and better cope with heat.

What will you receive?

Each session consists of using the environmental chamber for 1 hour (longer if needed), heart rate, RPE, core temperature and body weight will all be monitored and recorded throughout the session. You will have access to a bike ergometer, rowing ergometer, hand crank ergometer and treadmill* throughout your session.

*Using the treadmill depends on number of sessions booked for and temperatures being used in the chamber.

Altitude Simulator

Price: $150excl. GST for 15 sessions

What is it?

Simulated Altitude Training is the effective delivery of hypoxic (oxygen-reduced) air to the user, which simulates the oxygen content of air at altitude. It is a method commonly employed by elite professional athletes to improve performance.

Why is it useful?

Simulated altitude training trains the body to adapt to low oxygen levels, which enables more efficient use of oxygen in sport, exercise and leisure situations, and therefore enhances performance and endurance.

What will you receive?

Included in the price is 15 x 1 hour sessions on the altitude simulator.

Field Testing

Price: $150excl. GST per hour (plus travel costs)

What is it?

Field testing is commonly used to measure the performance of large groups of athletes, without the need for expensive laboratory equipment or to be able to test athletes in their own environment.

Tests can include:

  • Yoyo intermittent shuttle test to measure aerobic fitness
  • Vertical jump to measure explosive power
  • Sit and reach to measure flexibility
  • Sprint and agility tests using timing gates to assess speed

Why is it useful?

Field testing aims to provide you with results to track the progress you’re making with your training. It is also used as an indication of your current ability so that exercise prescription can be more targeted and effective.

What will I receive?

This service offers the client a report outlining the assessment findings and recommendations for improving performance.

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

Price: $100excl. GST

What is it?

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a way to monitor a person’s heart rate and rhythm. In the Clinic, electrodes will be attached to your chest. These patches record the heart’s electrical activity. This will be done at rest; followed by an exercise stress test. This test, to gauge the heart’s response to maximal effort, will be conducted on a treadmill or a cycle ergometer. Monitoring of the heart’s response after the exercise bout (recovery) will also be recorded.

How is it useful?

In a healthy person the electrical impulses recorded will show a heartbeat with a regular pattern. Besides giving an accurate measurement of the heart rate and rhythm, any electrical irregularity will be detected.

What will you receive?

This service offers the client an individualised report for you and your doctor. This report outlines your resting and exercise stress, heart rate response. Any abnormalities detected may be non-specific or may require further investigation.
