Choosing your school subjects

So it is time to choose your subjects, and like many people across the country, the endless options can give you a headache. Do not stress; you are not alone and have plenty of options. If you are a few years off finishing school, try keeping your subjects as broad as possible. If you can, we recommend studying maths, English and science to keep your options open as you move closer towards study after high school.

If you realise in your final year of school that you have not taken all the subjects you need to get into the course you want to do, do not panic. Talk to the Careers Advisor at school, or contact our Wintec recruitment team to discuss what your options are.

Scrolling through Waikato photographer, Mark Hamilton’s Instagram page during lockdown earlier this year was a delight and a joy.  His daily photos seemed to capture the mood of this time – a quiet, reflective sense of home. But they also had that slightly strange, unsettling quality that the Waikato is so good at delivering.

It was, therefore, an easy decision for the gallery to ask Mark to exhibit some of these works for our first in-person show opening since lockdown. In this exhibition, Mark presents a series of photos titled The Liberation of Limitation.

In addition, we commissioned Hamilton-based writer, Faith Wilson, to reflect on Mark’s photos. For her, the pictures triggered memories of a long-standing, complex friendship, cultivated in the early morning hours going to school in Hamilton East, and surviving to this day.

We hope you’ll join us to view these works in person and to take a moment to reflect together on this shared experience and extraordinary time.

Appointments, group, or school bookings can be made by contacting info@rampgallery.co.nz.

Ramp is a contemporary art gallery, situated in the heart of Hamilton City at Wintec School of Media Arts, Collingwood Street, Hamilton.
