What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I enjoy the students, who always have something fresh and valuable to bring. I particularly like working with students on real world projects, with outcomes that benefit both them and the community. I value the creativity involved in carrying out my own research.

What do you love about your area?

I love the way in which journalism connects with every-day life. It involves engaging with people from all backgrounds. It is about story telling and communicating sometimes complex ideas in simple ways.

Tell us about your experience in the industry

I worked as a journalist for 20 years, including stints as features editor and assistant editor at the Waikato Times. I have also freelanced and written opinion pieces.

What keeps you busy outside of Media Arts?

I step into my gully for inspiration, and also occasionally run through nearby gullies and along the river banks. I am relearning the piano after a thirty-five year break.
