It was creative friends that first drew Gabrielle to Wintec, and she was quickly hooked. “My neighbours at the time were at Media Arts. They invited me down to the campus one day and I thought it looked amazing. The first thing I did was start putting together a portfolio.”

Gabrielle specialised in moving image and particularly enjoyed the third-year internship experience. “I contacted my favourite Director of Photography (DOP) in New Zealand and was lucky enough to be offered a position on a TV commercial set. My tutors recognised the opportunity I had been given and were able to discuss options to ensure I could take on this experience. I truly believe I would not have had the knowledge or drive to achieve what I did that year without having had such an inspiring internship.”

After graduation, Gabrielle spent several years in Singapore producing TV series and commercials for Hurrah Productions, who produce content for clients like BBC, Volvo and Jetstar. “It was a fantastic experience and I got to staff shoots in seven different countries, working with different channels and cultures, which I think gives me diversity as a producer and production manager.”

“I often say my job is to fill the roles there is no budget for. I have learned to be very flexible - I can edit, camera operate, manage budgets, conceptualise and pitch, manage timelines, create storyboards and schedules (and ensure we stick to them!) and even do a little directing.”

Gabrielle’s goals are simple, she says – to always work with talented and inspiring people on challenging and fresh projects.
