About

I am a Wintec Bachelor of Nursing graduate myself, with experience across surgical nursing, post-anaesthetic care, intensive care, and more recently, I practiced as the Radiation Oncology Speciality Nurse at the Waikato Hospital. My favourite aspect of nursing is the interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and I have a special interest in palliative care and management. I look forward to commencing my Masters of Professional Practice within the next year.

Writing is a hobby and passion of mine - both blogging about motherhood and creative writing. I also love spending time with my partner, our son Tommy, and our dog Chet.

What do you enjoy about teaching/your job?

I enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge with students, and knowing that it will help to shape them as a healthcare professional. I enjoy hearing different perspectives, the challenges that these can sometimes present, and I find helping students to problem solve to be very rewarding.

What do you love about your area?

I love the variety and the opportunities that are encompassed in registered nursing. As someone who loves to grow and develop continually, being able to explore different areas and interests to find my niche, has been an absolute advantage of becoming a registered nurse. Most importantly, however, I love the interpersonal aspect of nursing; working with colleagues, patients, and whānau to improve outcomes for all.

Tell us about your experience in the industry

I worked briefly as a respiratory educator for children and their families in the community, and I loved the aspect of educating, and informing others on healthcare. In all roles I have possessed, I have volunteered to educate new staff and students to the respective areas as this is something I thoroughly enjoyed. My role here at Wintec is my introduction to the tertiary education sector, which I am loving so far.
