Summary

Students in this programme will learn the basics of computing at their own pace, as an introduction to computer programmes or to improve existing skills.

Learn the fundamentals of computer knowledge and keyboard use, how to access and navigate the internet, use programmes to write and send emails, create documents, and learn how to print. This course also covers different computing programmes and applications such as Microsoft Office. Students will have the assistance and support of a facilitator at tutored sessions.

What you will learn

Keyboarding
Become familiar with common keyboard functions, increasing your typing speed, and learn to protect yourself from overuse injuries.

Internet and email
Discover how to navigate the internet and how to use email effectively including attaching reports, photos, and documents.

Learn how to use Microsoft Office tools including:

Microsoft Word
Create, edit, format, and print documents such as letters, memo, and resumes/CVs.

Microsoft Excel
Create documents that contain both words and numbers such as budgets, removing the need for calculators, pens, and paper.

Microsoft Publisher
Combine text and graphics to produce professional documents used for advertising and publishing. Create publications designed for both printings and for the web.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Create presentations to show an audience in a series of slides. Learn how to print presentation hand-outs, outlines, and speaker notes. Design slides for use on overhead transparencies and 35mm slides.

He reo pōwhiri, your official welcome to Wintec

Tēnei te mihi mahana ki a koe e piki nei, e kake nei ki te Kuratini o Waikato.

You are warmly invited to attend the official welcome to Wintec for all new students, staff and whānau (family) at either our marae, Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa or Rotokauri campus. The pōwhiri is a welcoming ceremony involving mihimihi (speeches), waiata (singing), and will conclude with kai timotimo (light refreshments). Please gather at the campus hubs, and a staff member will guide you through our pōwhiri.
