About

Kia ora! Kō Jayne tōku ingoa - my name is Jayne, your friendly Student Advisor.

My job involves non-academic tautoko/support for students – everything from money, accommodation to confidence-building and personal problems. If something comes up that I can’t directly help you with, I’ll make sure you find the right person on or off-campus to help you out.

I am a student too – I study psychology at uni, so I know all too well the pressures students face. It’s not easy with all the essays, reports, exams, deadlines… not to mention limited money! There have been times I’ve needed to ask for help: everyone needs support at times.

Education is something I’m very passionate about, I have seen many people transform themselves through education, and reach their goals, which is exciting to see. It is an absolute joy and honour to support students reach their goals.
Most of my immediate whānau lives in or around Kirikiriroa/Hamilton. I have a nephew and two nieces who I love spending time with (and the rest of the family too, lol).

I have lived in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton most of my life, but also in France, the United Kingdom and in Auckland. In a past life (or what feels like a past life …) I was a graphic designer… I really enjoyed it, but around ten years ago I started to see a counsellor and it was life changing. It was so awesome and powerful that I decided I wanted to work with people too. From there I volunteered at Lifeline, studied psychology and worked with people with intellectual disabilities for two years… and now here we are! I have been at Wintec for around three years – I enjoy my job and love my awesome, fun team.

Please come and see me, with any problem big or small. I will listen without judgement.

I am in the Student Life office (City Campus) Monday - Tuesday, Thursday - Friday, and at the Gardens Campus on Wednesday mornings.
