    • Dress appropriately – graduation is a formal occasion therefore no rips, tears, holes, singlets, jandals or shorts please.
    • It is important you remain in the order you have been placed in until the ceremony has finished. This is the order in which you will be asked to come on to the stage to receive your qualification.

  • Pre ceremony: Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa Marae Graduation

Graduands  will be welcomed at Te Kōpū Mānia Marae Graduation with a karanga (ritual chant of welcome) when they are led on to the marae. Graduands and their guests (manuhiri) will then be welcomed with  a mihi whakatau (formal welcome) and a karakia (blessing) in te reo Māori before the graduation ceremony proceeds.

    • Graduate briefing 8.30am  - prior to the event, graduands are asked to gather in The AtriumThere will be a whakatau (welcome) and Wintec staff will explain the graduation process. For the ceremony, graduands will be placed in alphabetical order for each qualification and a Wintec staff member (marshall) will explain procedures. Graduands will march on to the marae shortly after 9am where they will take their seats facing the wharenui (meeting house).

Following the karanga and march on to the marae at Te Kōpū Mānia o Kirikiriroa marae, or having been led into the Claudelands Arena, you will be shown to your seat.

Once seated, the process is as follows:

    • Before the name of each award is announced, you will be ushered to the side of the presentation area.
    • Graduands will be given a name card (cue card) by a marshal. This has your legal name on it and matches the certificate you are about to receive. It may also show the phonetic spelling of your name (how it sounds in the English language), this is asked for on the Application to Graduate form. Please do not alter your name card – this may result in a blank certificate being issued to you.
