  • Ellyn Proffit

    Wintec postgraduate Master of Nursing student, Nurse Practitioner and Waikato District Health Board’s Nurse of the Year 2016. Ellyn completed Wintec’s Bachelor of Nursing 20 years ago, is back at Wintec completing her Master of Nursing, and is now Waikato District Health Board’s Nurse of the Year 2016. “I see it as an honour and a privilege to be a nurse." Wintec’s learning environment helped her get to where she is today, she says. “It was such a supportive environment, that set me up for what has been a versatile and rewarding career, and the continued support I get now from the Wintec nursing department, while I complete my Masters is so valuable.   • Richard Boobyer

    Business owner: Landscaping Concepts by Richard, TV Personality the Block NZ Diploma in Technology (Landscape Design) Richard Boobyer is an award winning landscaper who launched his company after participating on the TV3 reality TV show, The Block NZ. Since then Richard and his award winning team of specialist have built a reputation for innovative designs and high standards of workmanship. Richard Graduated from Wintec with a Diploma in Technology (Landscape Design). It was a good course to teach you what you need to know, he says. “You started off just drawing pictures and then get into doing the plans, going from how to do client consultations through to designing and presenting it." Now he loves his job and runs his own successful business, Landscaping Concepts by Richard. "We work on a huge range of amazing properties, from commercial to high-end residential, completing design work through to bobcat work and site preparation, and full landscape construction of the site. I love meeting new clients, and overcoming obstacles to create their dream landscapes".

  • Jenna Lynch

    Jenna Lynch is a TV reporter for Newshub based in Wellington. From her desk in Parliament's press gallery she covers everything from politics and crime, to royal visits and rugby. She began her career in print journalism and in 2013 received the Canon Media Award for Student Journalist of the Year. Jenna says she enjoyed the support of Wintec’s industry expert tutors. “They say that you should do what you love for a job because it’s the best 40 hours of your week. You can tell the tutors are there for that, and they made it the best 40 hours of my week too. Her enthusiasm for the industry is clear- “I love working in Television, and I love writing. I don’t really know what the future will bring, but that’s part of the beauty of journalism. As long as I’m writing stories I’ll be happy.”

    Stephen Bird Bachelor of Teaching ( ECE) graduate( 2012 ) Early Childhood Teacher at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Raroera Te Puāwai (early childhood centre)Hamilton Stephen graduated from Wintec in 2012 and has been working as an early childhood teacher in, Hamilton, ever since. “ I ‘ve found my niche in life ,“ he says. Work is fun but working and learning alongside the children is what he loves most, he says. “The support and guidance that I received from everyone at Wintec is what helped me the most.” “Sometimes, when I needed the extra support, the staff at the Student Learning Centre took the time to meet with me and helped me achieve my goals,” “Now I love my job and my dreams have come true.”
