Studying Business Administration at Wintec will provide you with the qualifications and skills you need for a career in a variety of office-related jobs anywhere in the world. Receptionist, office junior, administrator, records officer, data processor and administration assistant are all roles you will be able to confidently slot right into. Working in an Office Environment will include day to day jobs such as customer service, word processing, working with spreadsheets, communicating with clients, compiling PowerPoint presentations, computerised accounting, answering phones, making sure supplies and stationery are maintained and data entry. Combine the skills you learn at Wintec with your own great attitude, and the part you play in the smooth running and welcoming atmosphere of an office could really take you places.
With agribusiness, particularly dairy farming, being the largest industry in the Waikato, there are plenty of opportunities to create an exciting career in food production. At Wintec we work with the Primary ITO and Dairy Training Ltd and Dairy NZ to deliver programmes to meet the needs of the agricultural sector. Whether you’re a farm owner or manager or you’re looking to get started in dairy, sheep, beef or horticultural agribusiness, Wintec programmes to help you reach your goals. Improve your profitability with core skills in HR, financial management and planning, business management, resource management and sustainability, tax and investment and ownership and risk.
Develop the skills for a career as an arborist, including climbing, rigging, identification, biology, health, appearance, pest and disease control, tree surgery, tree removal and transplanting. There is a large practical component to these programmes. Work on real projects, go on field trips, and learn the skills you need at Hamilton Gardens to climb trees safely, carry out pruning and felling operations, use small machinery and plant out vegetation. Field trips to Regional Councils for work experience, such as McLaren Falls in Tauranga will give you practical experience in tree pruning and felling. You'll also spend time at Eastwood Hill, the National Arboretum in Gisborne, experiencing various aspects of arboriculture first hand. You'll also have two days a week to supplement your studies by working in the industry. Wintec is New Zealand's leading training provider in arboriculture and is internationally recognised as producing world-class arborists.
Have you got an eye for detail and a passion for good design? Architectural Technology could be right for you. As an Architectural Technician your skills and technical know-how transform vision into workable design. Your days are spent planning, designing and advising on the construction and alteration of buildings. This could entail inspecting proposed building sites, discussing ideas, local authority requirements and constraints with clients, creating designs and preparing drawings for houses and other buildings, specifying materials, applying for appropriate building and resource consents, and overseeing a project to its conclusion.
Art and Design
Bring ideas, stories and concepts to life. Drive innovative design solutions across multiple domains and industries. Study art and design and you can work in illustration, graphic design, web and interactive design, motion animation, fashion design or become a professional artist.
Advising clients on face and body care, applying and selling make-up and skincare products, providing electrolysis treatments, and getting very hands on with facials, massages and manicures. A career in the Beauty industry is varied and rewarding. Embedded within our Beauty programme is an internationally recognised City & Guilds qualification.

Make a positive change in people's lives. As a counsellor you’ll take the time to listen, to care, and support people in obtaining the resources they need. You’ll lead workshops and provide advice to groups or have a one-on-one approach. You can also specialise in an area of counselling; be it in grief and loss, alcohol or drug dependency, gambling addiction, sexual abuse, family violence, mental health, couple counselling or family relationships, you’ll point patients in the right direction and help them get to where they want to be.

Hospitality and Cookery

Industrial Measurement & Control
Ever wondered who installs, maintains and repairs the equipment and systems that control large industrial processes? This is one of those careers that most people don’t know exists but is vital to industries around the world. Trained instrumentation technicians, or “Instros” are in high demand in an extremely wide range of large process industries and Wintec is the only provider of qualifications in this industry sector in New Zealand. We have modern industry relevant training facilities and equipment, and our tutors keep up to date with the latest technology advances in this field.

Technology is constantly changing the way we live and IT professionals such as programmers, security specialists, and administrators are in high demand. Interior design offers an ever-changing industry of new trends, ideas, projects and clients. Take the chance to work in the fascinating industry of design, colour, planning and product specification. Interior designers need a practical solution-focused working style and skills in project management. Wintec offers the two year Diploma in Interior Design, with full time or part time options available. The course is heavily studio-based with a high level of customer focus and integration with industry to create work-ready graduates who can work across many different aspects of interior design. Create a professional portfolio of creative, technical and inspirational designs for both residential and commercial contexts. You will work on real-world projects alongside industry professionals, develop your design potential and be able to communicate your ideas both visually and verbally to a range of clients.
Landscape Design & Construction
Do you love the creativity and the outdoors? Do you want a career where you create beautiful outdoor spaces and make dreams come true? Then Landscaping is for you! Landscapers are often self-employed and work from a home office in whatever region you desire to live! It is a growing industry with people leading busy working lives and wanting a beautiful retreat at home to escape to. Landscape Design involves meeting clients, measuring and drafting plans, designing everything outside from outdoor rooms, to pools and playgrounds, to plants and places. Moving on from design, you can project manage the installation of your gardens, or be involved in the landscape construction building also. Landscape Construction involves the installation of designs, building the outdoor rooms, laying the surfaces, creating and planting the gardens. It also covers managing the build jobs for those that wish to run a business and have a team under them. It is a creative, rewarding, industry for people passionate about creating green spaces.
Conduct physical assessments and record case histories of clients, advise on exercise and changes to lifestyle, prepare and blend oils and waxes, massage and knead injured muscles and soft tissue a Wintec course will give you all the skills to handle a personally rewarding career in Massage.
You will be the go-to for women during pregnancy, labour, birth and for several weeks after. You will provide support and advice during one of the biggest milestones in a woman’s life. As a midwife your days will be spent educating women on pregnancy, birth and parenting, organising and discussing ultrasounds and blood tests, referring to other specialists when necessary, prescribing medication for labour, examining and caring for newborn babies and advising on breastfeeding, immunisations, contraception and general mother and baby health. You will graduate with an internationally recognised qualification and the knowledge needed to own your own business as a midwife. Your study will combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. You will have the chance to care for women and their babies and learn about the midwifery profession through applying classroom learning in practice. Our dedicated and experienced staff will be there to guide you every step of the way.
A career in music can involve performance, recording, songwriting, production, teaching and a range of other roles. You’ll need an understanding of basic music theory and be familiar with the technical requirements of your instrument, mixing desk or software. Tasks could include rehearsing, marketing, developing songs or liaising with band members. Some musicians complete postgraduate study and move into secondary or tertiary teaching. If you are seeking a career in commercial music then Wintec's Bachelor of Media Arts (Commercial Music) is an exciting and innovative programme specialising in songwriting/composition, music production or music performance. A feature of this programme is the industry-based projects which give students commercial practical experience. Music students have 24 hour access to six recording studios, including a three fully equipped Pro Tools HD systems, and 30 digital audio workstations. Depending on your pathway, you'll write and record your own songs, become familiar with Pro Tools and Logic Pro audio software; or perform solo and in ensembles, as well as working in interdisciplinary areas. You'll have the opportunity of an internship, working at live sound events or with bands and artists from New Zealand and overseas. Your lecturers are active researchers and experienced musicians, developing their own work alongside their teaching.
A Registered Nurse could focus on mental health, child health, aged care, oncology (cancer), community health, primary health care or workplace health and safety. Or maybe the fast paced nursing in intensive care or the operating theatre is for you. Your day will be spent planning and carrying out nursing care in your specialist area, monitoring patients, recording important changes in patient conditions, giving medication and intravenous drugs, checking equipment and supplies or educating patients and their families about health care needs. As an Enrolled Nurse, you will work across a range of healthcare institutions instead of choosing a specialist area. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to care for and educate patients in rehabilitation, acute care, aged care and mental health. With our postgraduate qualifications you can work in Advanced Nursing Practice roles which include nurse educator, clinical leader, clinical nurse specialist, clinical charge nurse, registered nurse prescriber in long term and related conditions, health services manager and case manager/co-ordinator. If you're undertaking the nurse practitioner pathway in our Master of Nursing, upon graduation you can apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand for the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice. Nurse Practitioners provide a wide range of assessment and treatment interventions, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing medicines within their area of competence and admitting and discharging from hospital and other healthcare services/settings. As clinical leaders they work across healthcare settings and influence health service delivery and the wider profession. Your study will combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. You will have the chance to care for your own patients and learn about the industry through putting classroom learning into practice. And our dedicated and experienced staff will be there to guide you every step of the way.
Get started in a rewarding career as an Occupational Therapist. You will give people their independence back as you assist and encourage them to overcome physical difficulties. You will plan and direct therapy treatment, help with daily tasks, adapt equipment and housing for easier use, educate family, help set realistic goals and provide the support needed to reach them. For a patient with physical difficulties, even one small step inspires a sense of achievement.
Outdoor Adventure & Recreation
If fresh air, adventure and the great outdoors appeal then so will a career as an Outdoor Recreation Guide and Instructor. You’ll spend your time teaching or guiding outdoor activities such as rafting, kayaking, diving, caving and tramping. Your day could also include planning programmes, risk assessment, organising safety procedures, checking equipment, running rescue practices, organising bookings, food and transport and maintaining trip logbooks.

Details can make or break a project, right? If you’re someone who recognises the importance of detail and accuracy, enjoys calculating quantity and cost, and wants to be part of the construction industry, then Quantity Surveying could be right for you. As a Quantity Surveyor you calculate a budget based on client requirements, then prepare detailed estimates for each stage of construction as the project develops. The role includes studying building plans, measuring and estimating material and labour costs, preparing feasibility studies, managing payments for contractors and suppliers and offering financial advice to clients.
Research and Applied Innovation
Are you hungry for an opportunity to make a significant difference in your industry? In an ideal world, wouldn't it be great if you could come up with practical solutions and get a qualification at the same time? We can't see why not. Whether you already have a research project in mind from your current employer or have an area that you'd like to explore and research that we may match with a current employer, these course are for you.
Rural Animal Technology
Do you want to work with farm animals alongside a rural veterinarian, advising clients on health care and disease, or managing animals for small block holders? Wintec can help you get where you want to be. As a Rural Animal Technician your day could involve helping rural veterinarians tend sick and injured animals, assisting small block holders with husbandry of their animals (docking, foot care, pregnancy testing etc) or import of animals, carrying out research. You may also provide general animal care, advise on disease prevention for pets and farm animals, and assist herd owners achieve breeding and production goals.
How cool would it be to develop a new way to clean up the environment? Ever wanted to design a new energy drink or food product? Interested in improving animal and crop production? Whether you love the great outdoors or would rather work in a laboratory, there are just so many options available to you in the field of Science Technology.
Help individuals reach their full potential. Support struggling families or whānau. Make a difference in your community as a Social Worker. You could be working with someone in a crisis situation one minute and advising someone on their rights and opportunities the next. You’ll use the law to protect at-risk children and youth, talk with clients about their situations and write reports and case notes. No matter what, your job will be rewarding. Supply chains are a system of parts that move products or services from a supplier to a customer. A career in supply chain involves the planning and management of activities in the supply chain eg people, resources, and information.
As a qualified tradesperson you can be virtually guaranteed a job – and income! – not just anywhere in New Zealand, but anywhere in the world. You can own your own business, and your earning potential? Well, let’s just say the sky’s the limit.
If you love animals, Wintec can help you make a career out of it. Whether it’s working in a veterinary clinic as a nurse, or caring for animals in catteries, kennels or pet retailers, Wintec can help you get where you want to be. As a Veterinary Nurse your day will involve taking x-rays, collecting blood samples and caring for sick and injured animals. You could do a spell on reception, clean out cages, sterilise and prepare surgical instruments, administer medication and injections and assist veterinarians on call-outs to houses and farms. Animal Attendants could work in kennels, veterinary practices, catteries, pet shops, research or animal care centres. Your role could involve bathing, grooming, feeding and exercising animals, cleaning their cages and treating minor injuries under the supervision of a veterinarian. Animal Control Officers ensure that people control their animals so they do not create problems for others. To achieve this you may have to give warnings or issue offence notices, educate the public about animal welfare and catch stray dogs. You may also be involved in feeding and caring for animals in pounds, carrying out cleaning duties and organising the adoption of animals.

- If this is your first time away from home, you'll probably love the supportive environment with catered food available at Student Village.
- If you're an international or mature student your best bet could be the Wintec Apartments where you can live on campus and choose to self-cater or purchase meals.
- Or if you're a mature student with a partner or family, check out the Rotokauri Eco Village for an experience similar to renting.
