Studying Business Administration and Computing at Wintec provides students with the qualifications and skills they need for a career in a variety of office-related jobs anywhere in the world. Receptionist, office junior, administrator, records officer, data processor and administration assistant are all roles graduates could work in.
Wintec's agribusiness programmes are suitable for students who are farm owners or managers or are looking to get started in dairy, sheep, beef or horticultural agribusiness. Students will improve their profitability with core skills in HR, financial management and planning, business management, resource management and sustainability, tax and investment and ownership and risk.
The work of an arborist can include anything from tree identification, biology, health, appearance and pest and disease control, to climbing, rigging, tree surgery, tree removal and transplanting. Arboriculture students will work on real projects, go on field trips, carry out pruning and felling operations, use small machinery, plant out vegetation, and learn all the rigging and tree climbing skills safely at the Hamilton Gardens.
Wintec's Architectural Technology programme provides students with the skills and knowledge to work as Architectural Technicians. Architectural Technicians use their skills and technical know-how to transform vision into workable design. They spend their days planning, designing and advising on the construction and alteration of buildings. This could entail inspecting proposed building sites, discussing ideas, local authority requirements and constraints with clients, creating designs and preparing drawings for houses and other buildings, specifying materials, applying for appropriate building and resource consents, and overseeing a project to its conclusion.
Art and Design
Graphic design, illustration, sculpture, painting, fashion design, photography, moving image, interior design: Wintec will give students the skills and knowledge to turn their passion into a career. Students will learn how to problem solve and tell stories through a variety of mediums.
Advising clients on face and body care, applying and selling make-up and skincare products, providing electrolysis treatments, and getting very hands on with facials, massages and manicures. A career in the Beauty industry is varied and rewarding. Embedded within Wintec's Beauty programmes are internationally recognised City & Guilds qualifications.
Business and Management
Business graduates can work in almost any industry, be part of some of the biggest companies in the world, and specialise in the area that interests them most - innovation and entrepreneurship, accounting, human resources, finance, event management, sales and marketing, management and much more. Wintec’s mix of latest technology, industry respected tutors, and an internationally recognised qualification is just what students need to set them on their way.
It's all about getting the right messages out in the world of communication. Communication is a broad area and opens the door to a variety of careers, depending on preferences and skills. A day might involve drafting creative web copy, coordinating information across social media channels, putting out a press release, or writing a promotions plan.
Wintec provides students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience to work as registered counsellors in New Zealand. Study combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. Students will have the chance to care for their own patients and learn about the industry through putting classroom learning into practice.
Wintec offers programmes designed especially for people working in the dairy processing industry, who are in need of upskilling.
From educating and caring for young children to teaching adults, the goals of education remain the same - to deliver both information and inspiration. Students will experience those goals first-hand from some of the most inspirational educators in the business, when they study one of our education programmes. Wintec's education programmes have a high level of practicum, teaching students what they need to know to succeed as well as giving them plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice.
Wintec offers programmes in: civil, electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering. Students will learn in Wintec's modern engineering and trades education facility; an environment that reflects industry standards and uses the latest techniques, technologies, and equipment.
Wintec's English language programmes are ideal for migrants and refugee, helping students to improve their opportunities in New Zealand. Students can progress all the way through the New Zealand Certificates in English Language, and be able to learn English specifically for study situations or workplace situations, take the IELTS, OET and Cambridge First exams, and continue on to study one of Wintec's other programmes, in a huge range of subjects.
Foundation programmes are ideal for people who don’t meet the entry requirements for a specific course they want to study, are unsure of what programme to study, or have been out of study for a long time. Students will graduate ready to jump straight into their next course, or with the confidence to use the skills they already have.
Wintec provides relevant and practical skills that will open doors in the world of hairdressing. Hairdressers consult with clients about the style or cut they want. They wash, cut, colour and blow wave clients' hair; advise on products and treatments for hair and scalp; and clean and sanitise equipment. Hairdressers may also be involved in doing the banking, helping train other staff members, and preparing for industry competitions.
Health and Wellbeing
Wintec offers a range of learning opportunities in health and wellbeing, including: support work, nursing, midwifery, social work, counselling, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and graduate and postgraduate programmes.
At Wintec, students will gain the knowledge, training and skills to care for public and private gardens, parks and open spaces, while also getting the benefit of learning at the beautiful Hamilton Gardens campus! Amenity horticulturalists contribute to society through advising on plant choices, overseeing horticultural programmes, planning regeneration projects, and managing green spaces.
Hospitality and Cookery
With qualifications in hospitality or cookery students will be work-ready for opportunities in New Zealand and around the world. Studying cookery at Wintec prepares students to work in a commercial kitchen as a chef. Students will learn cookery skills, as well as the skills to create and price menus, order supplies and catering for events, and many other important skills needed to be successful in industry. Studying hospitality prepares students to work behind the counter at cafés, brew coffee, provide customer service, be in charge of a restaurant, or to wait tables in a busy restaurant.
Industrial Measurement & Control
Trained instrumentation technicians, or 'Instros' are in high demand in an extremely wide range of large process industries and Wintec is the only provider of qualifications in this industry sector in New Zealand. Studying massage at Wintec will give students the skills, knowledge, and practical experience to handle a personally rewarding career in Massage.
You will be the go-to for women during pregnancy, labour, birth and for several weeks after. You will provide support and advice during one of the biggest milestones in a woman’s life. As a midwife your days will be spent educating women on pregnancy, birth and parenting, organising and discussing ultrasounds and blood tests, referring to other specialists when necessary, prescribing medication for labour, examining and caring for newborn babies and advising on breastfeeding, immunisations, contraception and general mother and baby health. You will graduate with an internationally recognised qualification and the knowledge needed to own your own business as a midwife. Your study will combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning in real healthcare environments. You will have the chance to care for women and their babies and learn about the midwifery profession through applying classroom learning in practice. Personal performance and leadership covers a range of subjects designed to enable students to improve themselves in both the workplace, and at home.
Physiotherapists help restore movement, function and quality of life to people of all ages affected by injury, disability or health conditions. Students studying physiotherapy at Wintec will get the skills, knowledge and qualifications to work as a physiotherapist in New Zealand.
Students studying quantity surveying at Wintec will learn the practical skills for quantity surveying, which includes estimating and feasibility, quantification, pricing, and financial administration of a project during construction.
Rural Animal Technology
Rural animal technology is an ideal for career for people who love animals of all sizes, or who have been brought up on a farm or in a rural town, and know the value of cows, horses, goats, and more. Rural animal technicians are part of the front line of care for these creature. Daily, rural animal technicians could do anything from helping rural veterinarians tend to sick or injured animals, docking and foot care to pregnancy testing and aiding births, carrying out research and advising on disease prevention for pets and farm animals.
Studying Science at Wintec means learning the theory and gaining practical skills that students can apply immediately to the workplace after they graduate. Wintec has pathways in Biotechnology, Environmental Technology, Food Technology and Agritechnology.

Supply chain and logistics
Supply chains are a system of parts that move products or services from a supplier to a customer. A career in supply chain involves the planning and management of activities in the supply chain eg people, resources, and information.
Wintec has a range of trades programmes available to help give students a head start on an apprenticeship. Options include: Plumbing, drainlaying and gasfitting, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive, and building and construction.

- If this is your first time away from home, you'll probably love the supportive environment with catered food available at Student Village.
- If you're an international or mature student your best bet could be the Wintec Apartments where you can live on campus and choose to self-cater or purchase meals.
- Or if you're a mature student with a partner or family, check out the Rotokauri Eco Village for an experience similar to renting.
