Element 1

Select complex measuring equipment for precision electrical measurements.

Performance criteria

1.1 Measurement technique is planned and explained before commencing work.

1.2 Measuring equipment is selected in accordance with the specific task and values to be measured, expected magnitude, and ability to meet required tolerances.

1.3 Measuring equipment is inspected for serviceability; valid calibration certificate if appropriate; and faults, and, where necessary, approved remedial action is taken.

Range - may include but is not limited to - operation and settings, full complement of accessories.

Element 2

Use complex measuring equipment for precision electrical measurements.

Performance criteria

2.1 Use of the measuring equipment achieves the required accuracy for the values being measured, and the tolerance of the measurement is quoted.

2.2 Measurements are validated by re-measurement in accordance with industry practice.

2.3 Measurement processes do not damage the components to be measured or the measuring equipment.

2.4 Measurements are recorded in accordance with industry practice.

Range - number of decimal places, units, prefixes, symbols, accuracy.

Element 3

Care for complex electrical measuring equipment.

Performance criteria

3.1 Damaged or faulty complex electrical measuring equipment is referred for remedial action in accordance with industry practice.

Range - damage and faults may include but are not limited to - deformities, breakages, missing or broken components, cleanliness, expired calibration, wear, corrosion.

3.2 Measuring equipment is handled and stored in a manner that maintains the integrity of the equipment.
