Learning Outcomes
Identify basic anatomical structure and function of common companion animals.
Identify and describe the husbandry of breeding and normal behaviour of common companion animals.
Discuss nutritional requirements, feed selection and requirements of the digestive systems of common companion animals in relation to their life stage.
Content
-Basic anatomy and physiology of common companion animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits and rodents
-The husbandry of breeding, pregnancy and parturition of common companion animals
-The different feed requirements of common companion animals
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning will be facilitated using a range of teaching and learning methods, which may include:
-Practical - laboratory; practical or workshop sessions and activities; demonstrations; field trips/industry visits.
-Theory - includes web-supported tutor facilitate/directed presentations; lectures and tutorials; group activities; peer presentations and review; group/individual research; online learning activities; case studies; guest speakers.
Assessment Criteria
Students must attempt all assessments and gain a minimum mark of 50% to pass this module.
