- On successful completion of this module, it is expected that students will be able to:
1.0 Analyse and discuss the aetiology and management of common community health disorders and the implications for exercise prescription
- Identify and describe the aetiology, symptoms and treatment of the selected condition(s) and the implications for exercise.
- Identify and discuss the pathophysiology characteristics of the different types of disease / conditions
- Common drugs used in the treatment of different conditions are analysed in terms of their physiological action and the implication for the client in terms of exercise participation.
2.0 Design an exercise programme for an individual from an identified special population or special needs group.
- Information required to make judgements and prescribe exercise is obtained and documented to meet specified protocols
- Risk factors are identified and judgements are made on exercise risk, special precautions and programme design factors in accordance with specified guidelines.
- Program design meets individual's needs
- Where necessary, communication with other health and fitness professional to confirm programme design and medical status is undertaken and documented
3.0 Implement and evaluate exercise programme for an individual from an identified special population
- Current health and wellness status of the individual is assessed and baseline measures for evaluating subsequent progress are obtained.
- Programme is presented to individual and instruction follows in accordance with organisational requirement
- Acute exercise responses are monitored against programme safety precautions and adjustments are made to programme to meet exercise risk, special populations, and programme design factors in accordance with specified guidelines
- Adherence and chronic adaptations are regularly monitored against programme goals and adjustments are made to accommodate progress and to optomise programme effectiveness
- Review of programme rationale identifies any areas for correction and modification. - Content

- Teaching will involve blended delivery methods incorporating theoretical and practical classes including: face to face, lectures, tutorials, workshops, group activities, guest lecturers, on-line delivery, web technology and other methods as appropriate

- To pass this module student must complete all assignments and accumulate an overall module mark of no less than 50.
