- On completion of this course the student will be able to:
1Identify and describe the features and landscape uses of a range of plants, describing the climatic, environmental and cultural (care) requirements of those identified plants.
2Identify resources useful for selecting and sourcing plants. - Content
- Identification, features, adaptations and care requirements for at least 375 plants looking at 15 plants per week over 25 week period, including;
60 x Natives
45 x Trees for streets, screening, shelter, features, parks, small gardens, pleaching, bollarding, espaliering
40 x Fruit Trees and edibles
45 x Filler shrubs for seasonal effects and certain colour combinations
45 x Perennials, Annuals, and Bulbs for seasonal effects, colour and picking
30 x Ground covers
15 x Climbers
30 x Sculptural / Focal plants
15 x Potted plants
20 x Hedging trees and plants
30 x Gully and Wetland plants
Landscape styles and effects requiring suitable plants.
Sourcing plants. - Teaching and Learning Strategy
- Teaching and learning methods will include theory classes, tutorial sessions, practical sessions, group projects, written assignments, oral & practical and written tests.
- Assessment Criteria
- Students must attempt and complete all assignments.
Students should attain a mark of 50 or above in their overall grade to obtain a pass.
