Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to:

1. Describe the structure and function of the skin and stages of wound healing including
differentiation between wound inflammation and wound infection
2. Discuss the relationships between wound pathophysiology, and factors (including chronic
diseases) that affect wound healing
3. Demonstrate competency in assessment of skin integrity and wound assessment.
4. Discuss choice of treatment options (including dressings) and rationale for decisions using
evidenced-base practice
5. Practice wound care in a manner that the patient, and family/whnau considers is culturally
safe

- Structure of skin and stages in process of wound healing
- Identify common wound types and understand aetiology
- Factors that affect wound healing
- Wound assessment
- Wound care products and procedures/guidelines
- Cultural considerations related to provision of wound care
