Prescription
The aim of this module is for students to develop specialist knowledge in various fields of social work practice by defining and critically examining these fields of practice. Students will also be able to critically evaluate, in more depth, a particular field of practice of their choice and interest. The skills learnt in this module will reflect students' ability to develop an integrated approach to practice reflecting the changing nature of social work in Aotearoa New Zealand society.

Learning Outcomes
1.Define a field of social work practice and produce evidence that supports the definition.
2.Identify and critique the structural, historical, legislative, political and professional influences and the current issues that may affect a field of practice.
3.Evaluate specialist knowledge, theory, practice approaches/models and skills used in a field of practice.
4.Evaluate the impact of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi within fields of practice.
5.Critically analyse a programme of service delivery within the chosen field of practice.
Content
- Identification and definition of a range of key social work fields of practice, including structural, historical, legislative, political and professional influences, and current issues
- Identification and description of field of practice client groups (including client needs and profiles) and service providers (including their service delivery programmes)
- Critique of field of practice specialist knowledge requirements
- Critique of field of practice assessment and intervention approaches, theories and models
- Assessment and critique of the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi in fields of practice
- Evaluation of field of practice service delivery programmes
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will involve theoretical and online sessions including tutorials, workshops, group activities, discussion, independent learning, and assignments.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is achievement based and the application and assessment of transferable skills are integrated in the assessment tasks. Students are required to complete each of the assessment tasks with a result of at least 35. The overall mark to pass the module must be 50
