Learning Outcomes: 1. Integrate professional and culturally responsive midwifery care in partnership with women/waahine experiencing complexity within the childbirth continuum.
2. Integrate comprehensive evidence-based midwifery care that recognises the woman’s individual circumstance.
3. Demonstrate professional accountability to women/waahine, the midwifery profession and to the wider community that reflects current legislation.
4. Apply effective, professional and therapeutic communication skills when working with the woman/wahine and family/whaanau in complex and diverse situations.
5. Consolidate and integrate planning and decision making into midwifery practice for women/waahine experiencing complexity and diversity within the childbirth continuum.
Assessment Criteria: The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the clinical requirements, including evidence of a minimum of 300 hours clinical placement to be eligible to pass this module.
Content: Clinical placement (300 hours)
• Application of principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tuuranga Kaupapa integrated into practice
• Spectrum of racism (unconscious bias, white privilege, micro-aggressions, covert and overt racism, institutionalized racism)
• Effective partnerships in a complex context
• Informed choice in diverse contexts
• Integration of midwifery knowledge and skill into professional practice in complex contexts
• Analysis and application of research and other ways of knowing into midwifery practice
• Exploring potential differences in practice
• Strategies for self-care within the professional context
• Reflecting on feedback in a professional and constructive manner
• Making midwifery decisions in complex situations, prioritizing care appropriately
