Learning Outcomes
1. Apply knowledge and skills of physiological pregnancy and pathophysiology, to the management of underlying medical conditions experienced by the woman/wahine and/or baby, in midwifery practice.
2. Demonstrate professional, collaborative, culturally responsive and effective midwifery care in partnership with women/wahine and/or baby experiencing complexities.
3. Apply integrated midwifery knowledge and skills in relation to caring for the woman/wahine and/or baby experiencing conditions and complexities.
4. Examine interprofessional care for the woman/wahine and/or baby experiencing complexities due to underlying medical conditions.
Content
Clinical placement (150 hours)
• Working in partnership in complex situations with women/waahine and whaanau
• Cultural competence and partnership
• Working in an interprofessional team
• Integrate knowledge of medical, obstetric, neonatal complications and conditions in the childbirth continuum
• Reflective practice
• Prioritising care and time management
• Critical thinking, decision making and care planning

• Professional and therapeutic documentation and communication
• Evidence-based practice and midwifery frameworks for practice
• Prescribing and midwifery practice
• Accessing and administering medicines
• Technical skills needed to care for the woman/wahine and/or baby experiencing complexities and/or conditions
Assessment Criteria
The portfolio is comprised of multiple components.
Students need to provide evidence against all learning outcomes, and gain an overall mark of 50% to pass this module.
Students must meet all the clinical requirements, including evidence of a minimum of 150 hours clinical placement to be eligible to pass this module.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
May include: Project-based Learning; Flipped Classroom; Blended Learning; Work-integrated Learning; Inclusive Practices.
Methods may include workshops and practical classes, tutorials, case-based learning, inquiry-based learning, group activities & discussion, supported online learning, e-portfolio, practice simulation.
