On completion of this module students will be able to:
1.Critically analyse current legislation and relevant Acts in relation to the midwifery scope of practice.
2.Reflect on knowledge of pharmacology and apply this knowledge to the scope of midwifery practice.
3.Competently demonstrate assessment planning, diagnosis and prescribing within the midwifery scope of practice and the relevant legislation.

- Legal Acts, Regulations and ethicial Issues
- Registration, Competence and professional development
- The disciplinary process and disciplinary issues
- Prescribing competently
- Revision of medicines used in midwifery practice
- Accessing pharmaceuticals and equipment
- Assessment and diagnostic knowledge and decision making
- Application of cultural competence

Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching strategies and learning methods will include lectures, online exercises and independent study.
Recommended Readings
A list of current readings will be provided on Moodle. However students are expected to read widely.
Assessment Criteria
The final grade will be on the basis of the marks from the achievement based tasks. All assessments must be attempted and submitted. Failure to do so will result in a 'fail' for the paper.
