Prescription
The aim of this module is for students to further develop competent midwifery practice when there is a deviation from the normal childbirth experience. This is achieved by integrating knowledge and skills into the midwifery and/or interdisciplinary care that is required in situations where medical conditions compromise the health of childbearing woman.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to:
1.Apply an understanding of the patho-physiological diagnosis, management and treatment of co-morbidities relevant to women and apply to the child birthing experience.
2.Demonstrate the ability to use and integrate a comprehensive midwifery knowledge base in relation to women with co-morbidities including the complexities of partnership, decision making and communication.
3.Apply specific midwifery skills in relation to caring for women with co-morbidities.
4.Explain the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach for the care of women with co-morbidities.

Teaching and Learning Strategi
Teaching strategies and learning methods will be in practicum across a variety of midwifery practice settings. There will be assessment within practicum and reflection upon practicum.
Assessment Criteria
Students must meet all the requirements of the competency based assessment tasks to be eligible for a final grade for this module. All assessments must be attempted and submitted. Failure to do so will result in a 'fail' for the paper.

Attendance at praxis sessions is compulsory to pass the module. Please see student handbook for details.
