The aim of this module is to introduce students to midwifery practice related to women's health issues including physical assessment of the well woman, pre-conceptual care, early pregnancy, gynaecological issues and women's health screening.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module students will be able to:
1.Apply knowledge and skills in the physical and psychosocial assessment, including understanding of cultural competence of the well woman.
2.Work in partnership with women/family/whanau who are experiencing early pregnancy and gynaecological problems and apply Section 88 referral guidelines as appropriate.
3.Apply appropriate communication skills when working with women, families/whanau and other professionals, including documentation.
4.Apply knowledge of health screening programmes for well women.

Teaching strategies and learning methods will include practicum and reflection upon practicum.
Assessment Criteria
Students must meet all the requirements of the competency based assessment tasks to be eligible for a final grade for this module. All assessments must be attempted and submitted. Failure to do so will result in a 'fail' for the paper.
