This module aims to develop student's self awareness of who they are as teachers through the exploration of ethics, social justice, leadership and personal responsibility to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This module aims to explore the contexts in which teaching occurs.

- By the end of this module students will be able to:
1.Critically examine and analyse the concepts and principles of social justice, including the principles of professional ethics for early childhood education teachers in complex situations.
2.Articulate, evaluate, and justify Who I am as a Teacher in relation to ethics, philosophy, social justice, advocacy, personal commitment to Te Tiriti Waitangi, leadership and theoretical teaching base.
3.Describe and defend their personal responsibility as a teacher to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
4.Define concepts such as, organisational culture and climate, motivation and performance and performance management in a variety of early childhood education settings and will be able to critique performance management and identify the desirable traits of an early childhood education leader.
5.Critique a range of management and organisational structures and the role of a teacher in early childhood education settings. - Assessment Criteria
- Assessment in this module is achievement based. Students will be required to achieve a result of 40 or better in each of the assessment tasks. The overall mark to pass the module must be 50 or better.
- Content
- Profession ethics including the Teachers Council Code of Ethics and other Codes of Ethics, ethical dilemmas and professional practice, social justice, equity, diversity and advocacy, personal responsibility to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, biculturalism, concepts of Tino Rangitiratanga and relationships with iwi and hapu, Te Reo Maori relevant to the early childhood education teaching environment, leadership and professional development, understanding organisational culture and climate, motivation and performance, conflict management, problem solving and decision making, critical feedback, reflective practice, identification of management structures, management roles and governance, Who am I as a Teacher.
