Prescription
This module aims to extend on knowledge about the provision of various Early Childhood Education programmes through reflective experience in an early childhood setting, licensed and chartered by the Ministry of Education different from the one in which the student's practicum is undertaken. This module aims to develop skills in implementing effective teaching strategies and techniques in a variety of early childhood settings.

Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is mixed mode, including competency and achievement based. The practical assessment is competency based. Students must attain the required standard in this assessment to pass the module. The remaining assessment is achievement based. All assessments must be completed, and submitted for assessment. To attain a passing grade for this module students must pass the practical competency based assessment and attain a minimum of 50 across both achievement-based assessments.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Students are in Teaching Experience placement, selected, approved and arranged by Wintec for 30 hours per week for three consecutive weeks, supervised by an approved and paid Associate Teacher
1x Taught face to face session prior to commencement of the Teaching Experience
1x Taught face to face workshop at the end of the first week of Teaching Experience
1x Lecturer visit three hours per student, includes a three way meeting with the Associate Teacher
1x Taught face to face session at the end of the Teaching Experience

Literature, reflective practice, experiential learning through the Practicum placement, praxis, demonstration and instruction, self-directed learning, workshops and online participation, and participation in Community of Practice/Learners
Content
Teaching Experience in a setting other than the students own Practicum setting, collaborative practice with an approved Associate Teacher and teaching team, comparative analysis between the students own Practicum setting and the Teaching Experience environment, relationship development in a teaching setting different to the students own Practicum setting, reflective practice, the planning, teaching and assessing model, teaching techniques and strategies - (select and apply an increasing range and depth of techniques, suitable for teaching context), use of te reo Maori me nga- tikanga-a-iwi (appropriate to the early childhood education environment), extension of critical thinking skills, relevant Literature to support practice, participation in Communities of Learners, introduction to equity, diversity, biculturalism and multiculturalism, using child observations for evidence based practice, basic concepts of positive guidance and professional ethics.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module students will be able to:
1.Critique similarities and differences between their practicum setting and teaching experience setting using the reflective practice cycle.
2.Effectively use reflective practice techniques which enable them to critique learning experiences and reflect on and evaluate teaching practice with the Associate Teacher and Visiting Lecturer.
3.Develop warm and reciprocal relationships with the children and adults within the teaching experience setting.
4.Show understanding of Tikanga Mori and the use of te reo Maori at year two level.
