The purpose of this module is to provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to write in a variety of forms required for tertiary study and to master academic conventions such as in-text referencing and compilation of reference lists.

Learning Outcomes
Following the satisfactory completion of this module students will be able to :
1. Produce transactional written text (that is writing that is intended to convey factual information or to argue the validity of a point of view with objective evidence).
2. Develop ideas logically, in sequence and support them with relevant details and/or examples.
3. Demonstrate command of conventions of formal writing.
4. Edit work to publication standard.
5. Identify key words in assignment questions/topic.
6. Use brainstorming or mind mapping techniques in preparation for writing.
7. Locate, use and correctly reference up to date information to support own writing.
8. Compile accurate reference lists according to APA formatting.
9. Demonstrate competency in a variety of writing formats e.g.: essays, reflective journaling, report writing, short answer writing, summarising and paraphrasing
