This module analyses the contribution that Maori music has made to New Zealand music and a variety of international genres. The students will explore the sources of popular styles and trends including opera, folk, country, rock & roll, rhythm & blues, pop and the contemporary styles of rock, reggae and hip hop. The students will discuss the fusion of traditonal Maori music with other music genres, the commercial, social and cultural aspects of the music, genre theories & their stylish hybridity.
