Prescription
This module aims to give a practical understanding of the technical skills and knowledge required to begin producing moving image and sound. The student will develop an understanding of the fundamental technical processes and skills relevant to documentary practice.

2.1 Understand and apply a process for developing and refining ideas

2.4Recognise the technical aspects of illumination
discuss theories behind the electromagnetic spectrum and relate onto image, demonstrate the ability to control

2.5Develop an understanding of technical aspects of post production

Content
3.1 Initial explanation of structure and processes
- Intermediate video camera introduction
- Camera handling techniques
- Devise methods of composing scenes, framing, lens angles, camera angles, depth of field.

3.2 Lighting workshops / practical exercises
- Direct lighting techniques
- Bounced illumination
- Exposure measurements in camera and control by monitor
Colour temperature control.

3.3 Basic sound recording
- Directional microphone control
- Interior / exterior sound recording
- Post producing sound sync dialogue, effects, music tracks
- Systematically become proficient in postproduction constraints of regenerating sound at a uniform level.

3.4 Develop postproduction skills

Each unit will comprise of assignment-led tutorials and technical workshops in the moving image modes relevant to narrative, documentary, and video skills. The students ability to collaborate and cooperate with peers and tutors is forefronted in all class activity and assignments.

Purpose of the assessment is to evaluate students technical understanding and its application to a major assignment.
Students must pass all assignments to pass the course.
