The aim of this module is to introduce students to a selection of current research strategies, professional business writing, oral presentation skills, customer relations, meetings, and problem solving techniques. These strategies and techniques prepare students to work as individuals and in teams to solve interior design problems and present in a professional manner.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will have the knowledge and skills required to:

1. Work effectively in a group or team by applying effective team/group problem solving methods
- Define and identify a range of individual and group problem solving methods
- Discuss and apply critical thinking, problem-solving and research skills to an interior design problem
- Develop skills to analyse problems, evaluate solutions and implement them
- Understand effective communication strategies when working in groups to resolve problems

2. Create interior design industry documents using appropriate software
- Understand and demonstrate the characteristics of effective professional writing
- Analyse and understand the importance of purpose, audience and tone in business writing
- Understand and apply the basic format for business letters, reports, emails, and other business documents
- Use appropriate software packages to produce a variety of documents as appropriate to the interior design industry

3. Apply client and customer relations strategies
- Apply an understanding of interpersonal skills in a professional setting
- Explain the importance of non-verbal communication
- Demonstrate and apply listening skills
- employ the principles for effective client/customer interviews
- Discuss giving and receiving feedback
- Develop an understanding of basic conflict resolution and negotiation strategies

4. Apply a selection of presentation strategies relevant to the interior design industry
- Analyse and demonstrate a variety of methods for the verbal, written and visual and oral presentation of ideas
- Plan and propose professional presentations suitable for client discussion and evaluation

Assessment Criteria
To pass this module, students must pass all assessments and accumulate an overall mark of no less than 50.
