The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge and skills required to understand spatial design elements and products including textiles, materials, lighting design, furnishings and finishes for interior projects. This understanding enable students to undertake measurement and budget costing analysis of textiles, materials and finishes for interior design projects that can be documented in schedules and specifications to recognised industry standard.

- On successful completion of this module students will have the knowledge and skills required to:
2.1Identify and select textiles appropriate to a range of interior environments
research and select a range of fabric textiles appropriate for specific applications within a range of interior projects
research and select a range of flooring textiles appropriate for specific applications within a range of interior projects
2.2Describe processes used in the design and manufacturing of a wide range of textiles, materials and finishes for interior design application
develop knowledge of a variety of natural and synthetic fibres and fabrics
analyse and explore the unique compositions of natural, synthetic and other fibres, and their attributes and disadvantages for suitable application
explore - manufacturing processes used in the manufacture of woven fabrics
understand a variety of fabric finishing and testing processes and procedures
2.3Apply skill and competency in lighting design coupled with spatial planning in the selection of fittings appropriate for a range of interior projects
acquire an understanding and competency in the effects of lighting on various materials, finishes and furnishings within an interior environment
acquire understanding of appropriate types of lighting for a range of varying interior design settings
2.4Apply skill and competency in selecting a range of interior design products,fittings and finishes
create finishes schedules itemising appropriate, fit for purpose, selected interior treatments and fittings to be applied in an interior environment that forms part of the 'hard' fitout of the project

- Tutor/s will:
- Establish themes and issues for analysis and discussion
- Construct models for analysis and discussion of texts, visual works, precedent studies
- Prescribe structure for working through stages of a project
- Negotiate topic, workload, and the form of the presentation with students
- Prescribe exercises to develop drawn, written and oral presentation skills
- Facilitate student's progress through structured exercises and supervision of regular self-assessment
Students will:
- Participate in dialogue and identify relevant themes from lectures and readings
- Develop their understanding of issues explored in texts and visual works
- identify areas of interest that form the basis of an area of research, a design project or presentation
