Prescription
To enable students to apply the workplace practices required of a tourism workplace including: teamwork, team leadership, risk management, and compliance with relevant Acts and health and safety legislation. Students will complete 30 hours of work experience in a suitable context.

Learning Outcomes
1: Apply knowledge of human resource operations and practices that support effective
communication and customer service delivery in a tourism organisation.

2: Demonstrate an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of employees, employers
and clients in tourism workplaces in relation to relevant legislation, regulations and industry
standards.

3: Maintain appropriate workplace standards of professional behaviour and practice.
Content
- Organisational structures and processes; including organisational structures and their
development, workplace standards of practice, operation and legislation, tourism jobs and
skill requirements in a tourism workplace including teamwork and leadership

- Human resource operations and processes for a tourism organisation; including recruitment
and selection practices, job description and person specifications, curriculum vitae/rsum
requirements, induction and people development

- Relevant legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines; risk management

- Work experience component; practical experience of tourist workplaces including business
systems and customer service experience.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Practical - 30-hour work experience; workshops; group activities; includes team work, time management skills, recording of evidence, work experience site and tutor feedback on professional practice and behaviour.

Theory - includes face-to-face, web-supported lectures and tutorials; use of 'Moodle' and the internet; inquiry-based learning.
Assessment Criteria
Assessment in this module is mixed-mode. The portfolio is achievement-based and comprised of multiple components, all compulsory. Candidates must attempt all components of the portfolio. Candidates must also meet all the requirements of the competency-based assessment to be eligible for a final grade for this module. The final grade will be based on the overall grade from the portfolio Candidates must achieve a minimum C grade pass overall to pass the module.
