The aim of this module is to further develop student's knowledge of landscape plants, those fulfilling specialist roles and styles, and develop effective planting designs for specific landscape situations.

Learning Outcomes
Identify a range of plants and their combinations for specific landscape situations.
Research and analyse site specific characteristics and factors that will influence the selection of plants for specific landscape situations.
Illustrate specialized, site-specific planting combinations using design principles in technical planting plans.
Develop detailed maintenance schedules for planting plans in specific landscape situations.
Describe ecological relationships in plant communities within a site, categorise and illustrate how to integrate these into landscape design.
Content
-Specialist plants for specific situations; 300 specialised plants
-Situations; may include, but not limited to; commercial, industrial, civic, amenity park, roadways, pocket parks, green spaces, road verges, street plantings, and residential; contemporary, surreal, sculptural, coastal, wetland, gully, potted, all year picking and form worked trees; pleaching, espaliering, bollarding, small spaces, roof gardens, green walls, balconies
-Plant combinations for specific landscape situations, combinations of 5-7 plants, specifically focusing on colours, textures, all seasonal effects, flowering, foliage effects
-Climatic, environmental and cultural care requirements for plants and landscape situations
-Planting design principles, unity, simplicity, scale and proportion, balance focus, pattern, variety, seasonal effects, colour emphasis, sequence, and rhythm
-Conservation and ecological applications in landscape design
-Growth habits, and maintenance requirements for specialist plants
-Creation of workable Maintenance Specification to go with plans
-Supplier details, and availability search, with costings.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including; workshops, project-based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, on-line learning, work integration, and independent research for the creation of portfolios of evidence of learning.
Assessment Criteria
Portfolio of Evidence100
The weight of the overall assessment is equally distributed across learning outcomes.
The portfolio of evidence will demonstrate the achievement of the required knowledge, competencies and capabilities across all the learning outcomes.
Assessment is achievement based. Students need to attempt all elements of the assessment and gain at least 50 in each element of the portfolio to gain an overall pass in this module
