The aim of this module is to further develop student's knowledge of the influences on landscape design style and the advanced use of principles and site analysis in Landscape Design.

Demonstrate knowledge of key historical gardens, designers and architectural movements, and their influences on contemporary designers today.
Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary design principles and evaluate how they are used in various design industry fields.
Evaluate site analysis as a facet of landscape design.
Use site analysis with landscape assessment and evaluation techniques in accordance with statutory requirements for landscape design.
Content
-Architectural styles through history and their supporting landscapes and designers.
-Key contemporary landscape designers around the world, and their historic references.
-Analysis and use of design principles.
-Form and function of historical gardens, and theoretical underpinnings.
-Design principles used in related industry.
-Site analysis at a conceptual, higher level, assessment of affects.
-Analysing design work; zoning, neighbourhood character, compatibility of land use, access, spatial functions, indoor/outdoor linkages, rooms, circulation patterns, borrowed views, unity, simplicity, balance, scale and proportion, focus, pattern, repetition, sequence, emphasis, rhythm.
-Included specialist landscape sites; rural, lifestyle, coastal, wetlands, ecological settings, subdivisions, sustainable development, master planned communities.
-Sustainability considerations.
-Ecological considerations.
Learning and Teaching Resource
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including; workshops, project-based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, on-line learning, work integration, and independent research for the creation of portfolios of evidence of learning.
Assessment Criteria
Portfolio of Evidence100
The weight of the overall assessment is equally distributed across learning outcomes.
The portfolio of evidence will demonstrate the achievement of the required knowledge, competencies and capabilities across all the learning outcomes.

Assessment is achievement based. Students need to attempt all elements of the assessment and gain at least 50 in each element of the portfolio to gain an overall pass in this module.
