The aim of this module is to develop student's knowledge in the application of the garden design process and demonstrate the methodology for creating a garden design.

Learning Outcomes
Supervise tape surveying of residential garden sites to enable preparation of scale base plans for design development.
Acquire and practice communication skills in garden design.
Demonstrate the garden design process for a flat residential property or site of similar nature.
Provide support on site, through safe instruction and supervision of plan set-out, and inspections during the garden installation process.
Content
-Site measure up, including tape surveying, direct measures, triangulation, offset measures, and change in height measuring using manual methods.
-Instruction and supervision techniques.
-Communication techniques.
-Writing skills; client brief letter writing, design quotes, garden design reports, language style, descriptive writing, and persuasive, emotive style.
-Meeting client, interview, site analysis, design development, masterplan rendering, reporting, and presentation to the client.
-The design process; client and site analysis, functional bubble diagrams, grid and freeform studies, concept design and refinement, master planning.
-Master planning; including specifying landscape elements, material choices and finishes, plant palettes, sustainable choices, and design intent.
-Plan set-out instruction i.e. to clients or contractors, how to set-out the plan, and then inspections/checking elements throughout the garden design installation.
-Professional practice attributes: sustainable practices; professional and ethical behaviour; teamwork; accurate record-keeping.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including workshops, project based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, verbal and plan presentations, and creation of portfolios of evidence.

Portfolio of Evidence 100
The weight of the overall assessment is equally distributed across learning outcomes.
The portfolio of evidence will demonstrate the achievement of the required knowledge, competencies and capabilities across all the learning outcomes.
