Learning Outcomes
1:Set up and test control valves and their associated positioners and actuators to determine their control characteristics and performance features
2:Write, store, and test an entry level PLC programme
3:Determine the operating characteristics of pH, conductivity, dissolved O2 and flue gas O2 analysers, and to calibrate them using standard calibration techniques and then where possible test a range of samples with the calibrated analysers.
4:Configure and test a strain gauge based load cell in a variety of configurations.
5:Draw and interpret sequential pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, and to be able to connect and test circuits for given circuit diagrams
Content
-Control valve and actuator setup and testing
- Control valve, actuator and positioner characteristics
-Programmable logic controller operation, programming and testing
-Liquid and gas analyser calibration
-Strain gauges and their configuration and testing in load cell applications
-Pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, simulations, circuit realisation and testing
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Learning will be by way of structured practical learning where students are given a range of tasks to complete and observations to make from their practical findings.
Students will be encouraged to research some aspects of their practical by way of reference to manufacturers' instructions which may be via library/database and/or internet searches.
Assessment Criteria
