The aim of this module is to develop students' ability to identify pruning requirements and undertake appropriate pruning, understand and describe tree support systems, and undertake tree transplanting.

Learning Outcomes
Identify the features to be emphasised, and prune mature amenity trees.
Undertake the installation of cabling equipment, hardware, and support materials.
Understand and describe inspection and maintenance cycles.
Undertake the process of tree transplanting using specialist equipment.
Supervise and provide instruction to other team members.
Content
-Enhancement of trees by pruning in terms of features and client requirements.
-Identification of tree form in terms of pruning objectives.
-Pruning procedures.
-Use of chainsaws to carry out pruning above ground.
Identification and description of different types of hardware and support and their uses.
-Installation of cables and other appropriate tree support system.
-Undertaking the process of tree transplanting using specialist equipment.
-Tree lifting and placement in new location using heavy lifting equipment.
-Description of post-transplant care.
-Supervision of arboricultural crews and provision of instructions to other team members.
-Professional practice attributes: sustainable practices; effective communication skills; professional and ethical behaviour; teamwork; accurate record-keeping.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Teaching and learning methods will be face to face delivery including workshops, project based interactive tasks, with group sessions, tutorials, and creation of portfolios of evidence.
