The aim of this module is to develop student's ability to understand the importance, components and relevance of parks and open spaces and apply this and scientific and theoretical horticultural principles to their routine maintenance.

- Apply knowledge of soil properties and growing media to the maintenance of plants and gardens in amenity spaces.
Identify a range of trees, shrubs, climbers, annuals, biennials and herbaceous perennials used in amenity horticulture, and understand plant growth patterns and responses to pruning.
Propagate plants using sexual and asexual methods.
Identify a range of common pests and diseases associated with amenity horticulture and control methods that can be applied in parks and open spaces.
Apply irrigation principles for amenity horticulture.
